‘Big brushes, thicker paper, long-time mixing, short time applying’. These were the sentiments of Tasmanian watercolourists  who had earnt their stripes, passing it on to the next generation. In an age of neurotic photographic realism and anonymous ‘get lost’ contemporary art, there are some artistic truths worth holding the line with. Anyone can tell from 20 paces if a painting ‘works’ or not.
